crime scene investigation
- For this project, we were all given a crime scene that we investigated, and eventually solved. In order to solve our crimes, we used skills such as DNA processing, fingerprint analysis, blood spatter, and super glue fuming to resolve our case. For instance, my crime involved a man who was found dead on his kitchen table, surrounded with bottles of alcohol, papers, and blood. His wife claimed that it was a suicide, due to his prior financial issues, but it was our job to make sure that this is what really happened. We put our skills to work and uncovered the truth to Mr. Lee's "suicide". After analyzing our evidence we used fingerprinting to uncover who had been around at the time of the scene and what they had touched. This gave us insight on who was actually at the scene and what they were attempting to do. We used blood spatter to discover where the bullet came from and at what angle it was going. Once the evidence was processed and we put it together, we were able to expose the reality of the death.
- For this particular project, I was able to engage relatively well with the material we learned, and the crime scene we investigated. I really enjoyed the process of solving the crime, and I found the ways to solve it to be even more interesting. Once I surpassed the difficulties that I was facing with this project I was able to come to an accurate understanding with the material we were learning. I found the most interesting part of this project to be the fingerprinting. I found it fascinating that we can uncover and match fingerprints so easily and in such a simple way. My partner and I seemed to work really well together, and we accomplished all of our work by helping each other and collaborating to achieve the final product.
My community connection
For my community connection, I picked up trash along and around the river trail. When I was running on the river trail a few days ago, I noticed an unusual amount of litter near the library and high school and decided to go pick it up, so the citizens of Durango could enjoy the river trail just as I have for as long as I can remember. Living in the cleanliness of Durango is a privilege and I love being able to enjoy the litter-free outdoors and picking up trash is one easy way to preserve Durango's beauty!

Cat Dissection
We began this unit by choosing the animal we wanted to dissect. In my case, I chose to dissect a cat, but other options were to dissect a shark, or fetal pig. We began with examining and identifying the external characteristics of our specimen. This included the whiskers, paws, ears, eyes, nipples, as well as the oral anatomy. The next step was to dissect and begin learning the internal features of a cat. We studied the muscles of the cat first, and moved into the organs. We learned the different systems, and the function of it to acquire the full knowledge behind the mechanics of a cat. We were tested on our knowledge by taking a final test, which we video taped and explained in detail the different parts of the cat and the function of the part of the body.
Monkey Meal Planning
For this project, we learned and studied about the diets of chimpanzees and monkeys, along with the Primate Rescue Center. We learned about the goals of the Primate rescue Center, and created recipes for the recused chimps and monkeys at the center. The recipes provide nutrient enriched foods that fit their needs to keep the animals healthy and happy. We also were given the opportunity to make enriching activities for them, to prevent the monkeys and chimps from getting bored and depressed. Read my recipe and excel charts down below!

Durango Nature Studies Habitat Assessment Project
For this project we took a trip to Durango Nature Studies to capture and identify frogs, as well as perform fieldwork on the property. We used the method of catch and release with the frogs, after catching a frog we injected a small amount of pink die to mark the ones that had been caught. The fieldwork that was conducted included tests such as levels of Phosphate, dissolved oxygen, pH, nitrate, and coliform in the DNS pond and river. As far as the written portion of the project, goes, we were required to write a Data Analysis, and a technical writing about Durango Nature Studies and the Leopard frog and Bullfrog. The final part to the project was an excel sheet of the data we gathered at DNS. I am not completely satisfied with the writing portion of my project., I could have refined it more and put more in to it. I also could have spent more time completely understanding the material rather than rushing through it.
